Our Leadership

According to 1 Peter 5:4, the Head of the Church is Jesus. He is the Senior Pastor.

Under the Headship of Jesus the church is led by a plurality of godly leaders, qualified according to Titus 1:1-16 and 1 Timothy 3:1-7. At SOMA we call these leaders Pastor-Elders. The main purpose of the Pastor-Elders is to oversee and care for God's Church through teaching, preaching, vision, direction, and protection from false doctrine and theology. Assisting the Pastor-Elders in leading the church are a team of leaders that serve as Deacons according to 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

Paul Ortlinghaus

Paul grew up in Sonoma County and graduated from Rancho Cotate High School (Rohnert Park). While studying at Biola University and then Talbot School of Theology dreams of church planting were born and after being a youth pastor for almost fifteen years he took the leap. Paul's greatest desire is to help people begin and mature in their relationship with Jesus. He is also passionate about coffee, dark chocolate, reading theology, and the San Francisco 49ers.

Rich Wells
rich_jan.JPGRich and Jan have been married 50 years, having been born, raised, and married in Goleta, (Santa Barbara county), CA. Our parents were best of friends and provided us with a fine example of family. We have two married children, Kristen, who is married to Pastor Paul, and Cameron, who is married to Candy. We have been blessed with five wonderful grandchildren. After graduating in electrical engineering and ROTC I served a year in Vietnam. My career was in the management, operation, and application development of computer systems for PG&E for 35 years, which led us to Sonoma County where we have lived for 34 years. Jan and I were privileged to be part of the founding group for SOMA Church Community, and have been involved in administration, teaching, prayer support, planning, and serving in many ways. What a blessing to see people come to Christ, grow in their faith, and bring others to Jesus.

Laurie Aaseth
Deacon AasethLaurie and her husband Chris have been a part of SOMA since it met in the Ortlinghaus home in the early "pre-natal" stage. We thought we were just helping Paul and Kristen out for a year and found that God has worked in our hearts so much in that year that we could not imagine not being a part of SOMA. We caught the vision of SOMA and God showed us what we never knew was missing from how we looked at church and our mission previously. Since then, we have been blessed by adding three children to our family, Eli, Jane, and Emily. Laurie stays home to raise the kids and teaches childbirth education one night a week. She loves to serve her SOMA community and the Santa Rosa community as well.

Duane McPheeters
I have lived in Santa Rosa for twenty years, serving in children, youth and adult ministries. I am married 20 years to Lindann and have two step children and three grandsons. I have owned and run a delivery business for eighteen years. We love to entertain and do ministry in our home.
